During a recent conference call Senator Roy Blunt spoke about new trade laws being passed on capitol hill. In an interesting turn of events Republicans are working with the executive branch to pass the bill, while democrats are fighting against it, saying it will send U.S. jobs overseas. On Friday, May 22nd, the bill passed the Senate with a 62-37 vote. Obama and Republicans both agree the bill will help U.S. products reach foreign markets with “fast-track” negotiating. At this time the bill still needs to pass the house in order to become law.
Senator Roy Blunt also slammed the Veterans Administration for not taking action after repeated poor reviews and numerous problems throughout the VA system. The Missouri Senator Spoke out during a conference call praising the “Veterans Choice” program and stating that the VA would never catch up to hospitals unless they needed to compete for patients. Currently the “veterans choice” program is only available to veterans in very specific conditions including those with burdens in travel, traveling more than 40 miles to the closest VA, or those waiting more than 30 days to use a local VA.
