INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – An Independence police officer was shot while responding to a burglary call Wednesday morning.
According to the news release, at 9:34 yesterday, officers responded to
a residential burglary in progress call in the 3600 block of South Delaware Avenue. While on the scene, Officer Tom Wagstaff was shot. The suspects fled in a vehicle taken from the residence and lead police on a pursuit. Two suspects were taken into custody when the pursuit ended at East 23 Street and South Cedar Avenue.
The officer was listed in critical condition at an area hospital.
